The concept of a “filling” is replacing and restoring your tooth structure that is damaged due to decay or fracture with a material. We will replace old, broken-down amalgam/metal fillings with white fillings (composites) to  restore your smile and teeth to a more natural look and feel.

Comparing White Fillings Versus Silver Amalgam Fillings.

  • White fillings bond to the tooth, metal fillings do not.
  • White fillings are preferred by most patients due to the natural color.
  • Restorations with composite require less removal of tooth structure due to the ability of the material to bond the tooth. Reliance on mechanical retention is not as important as in metal fillings. Some of the bonding liquid material release fluoride, making it anticariogenic during the first weeks that the filling is placed.
  • White filings do not contain mercury, although the controversy on mercury still exists, the ADA has concluded that the old silver filings do not have FREE mercury but instead exist in a compound form and it is extremely difficult to prove the damaging effects of such compounds.
