Inlays & Onlays
At the Manhattan dental practice of Dr. Laura Torrado, we believe in conservative dentistry services. That means we provide treatments that repair tooth damage while preserving the maximum amount of healthy dental structure. For minor damage or decay, we will use tooth colored, composite resin fillings to replace the lost tooth enamel. For more advanced dental damage, a crown was typically recommended. For those patients who have damaged or lost as much as half of a tooth to decay, we may be able to offer more conservative solutions – inlays or onlays. If you’d like to find out more, read on or contact Dr. Torrado in her Central Park South dentistry practice. We treat patients from Manhattan, New Jersey, or Connecticut.
What are Inlays & Onlays?
These two restoration options allow us to provide a happy medium between fillings and dental crowns. Crafted from high quality porcelain, inlays and onlays allow us to keep the maximum amount of tooth structure while effectively replacing the lost tooth structure. Inlays are used when the damage or decay is inside the cusps (the raised portions of teeth on the biting surfaces), and onlays are used to repair damage to one or more cusps of the tooth. The inlays and onlays are crafted and placed in two appointments. During the initial visit, we’ll prepare your tooth and capture bite impressions. Then, our dental lab will create a custom inlay or onlay. Once we receive this final restoration, you’ll return to our office to have your tooth repaired.
