Gum Disease Laser Therapy
For those patients who do suffer from gum disease, we offer a variety of treatments to renew oral health. In the earliest stages, we provide more frequent professional teeth cleanings to improve oral health. When necessary, we will progress to the more advanced scaling and root planing procedures. These treatments were typically performed with scalpel and sutures, but we use advanced soft tissue laser therapies to provide patients with the same oral health renewal without the discomfort during and after treatment. Contact Dr. Laura Torrado and her team to find out more or schedule an appointment in our Central Park South dentistry practice.
What is Scaling and Root Planing?
Scaling is the systematic removal of plaque and tartar buildup at or below the gum line to prevent the irritation, inflammation, or infection of the soft tissue. Root planing is the smoothing of tooth roots to prevent the future buildup of plaque and tartar.
What are the Benefits of Laser Therapy?
There are numerous advantages to completing scaling and root planing with a laser rather than traditional scalpel and suture including:
- Increased comfort during the procedure
- Reduced bleeding during the procedure
- Diminished need for sedation or anesthesia
- Reduced risk for infection following treatment
- Decreased recovery time following the procedure
